About the Tower
gilbert water towerThe water tower in Gilbert is one if its most prominent landmarks. Part of the historic Heritage District in downtown Gilbert, the water tower is a distinctive landmark. In March 2002, the Town Council authorized the Water Town Preservation Coalition to raise $120,000 that will be used for refurbishing the tower as well as improving the surrounding grounds.

It was first built in 1927 by Pittsburg and Des Moines Steel Company. It's purpose at that time was to actually help Gilbert Fire Fighters put out more fires around the town because then when there was a fire, they used the individual pumps around the homes to do so. Many years later it began to be used as a source of drinking water for the town. by 1985, because of very rapid population, it retired to a landmark of the town. It actually is a landmark that is found very fond by many "Gilbertians" around the town. It is a historical landmark, the tallest attraction in all of Gilbert rising up to 123 feet, it is the one thing that marks the spot of real Gilbert, and is a symbol of growth and past to present to future transition to the town.
